Let me help you rewrite your emotional journey.
I'm Heather Foster, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. I work with people navigating relationships, trauma, and the quiet work of rebuilding a stronger sense of self.
You're the expert of your own story. I'm here to help you look at what you're already creating so you can find the power to shift what's not in alignment with your best and highest self.
You don't need to have it all figured out. You just have to be willing to start.
The first step takes courage, and I don't take it lightly that you're here.
I'm not going to hand you a script or a rigid protocol. Instead, I'll meet you exactly where you are, and together we'll figure out what you need, taking one honest, intentional step at a time.
Relational, eclectic, and experiential.
The relationship between us โ built on trust, safety, and honesty โ is the foundation everything else stands on. I draw from a range of therapeutic methods and tailor them to you, not the other way around.
I show up authentically, and I'll ask you to do the same. There's no "right" way to do this work. There's just an honest look at what's working in your life, what isn't, and what you want to build instead.
I help people who are navigating:
I know you're doing the best you can, so you'll get no judgment from me โ regardless of what you're dealing with or what behaviors you want to change.

Healthy Coping Skills
We all sometimes turn to unhealthy or addictive behaviors to get through life โ let's look at things holistically, with compassion and respect.

I work with individuals, couples, and families from many walks of life and viewpoints โ seen virtually as well as in person in Sebastopol, CA.
Going at your pace, together.
Laying the groundwork
Our first session is when we get to know each other, name what brought you here, and set expectations for where we're headed. Your healing is ultimately your responsibility โ so don't be surprised if you leave with a little homework.
Going at your pace
Each week, we'll use whatever is showing up for you as an opportunity to heal. I'll be transparent about what I'm noticing and where I think we could focus, and I'll trust you to tell me when something isn't landing. This is a collaboration, not a prescription.
I believe every person is doing the best they can with the tools and experience they've been given. There's no judgment here. There will be no shaming or blaming. I'll be with you in a safe, steady space to take your healing journey step by step. You don't need to have it all figured out before your first session. You just have to be willing to start.

Good questions to ask before we start.
Yes โ most of my caseload is virtual, and I also see clients in person in Sebastopol.
I'm in-network with most major plans through two booking partners. Find your plan in the "Book a Session" section above to get the right link, or reach out if you're not sure.
That's more than okay. Many of the people I work with are new to it. We'll go at your pace, and there's no wrong way to start.
All three. Let me know in your intake what kind of support you're looking for.
If your partner doesn't want to come, you can still do good work on yourself โ and can still change the course of the relationship.
While I understand why you're asking, I do not offer free consultations. In any consultation together I'm likely to learn very personal details about you and your life. And without the proper paperwork in place to establish a therapeutic relationship, there is not a safe container to protect you and your confidentiality.
Yes. When you schedule your first session, you'll have the opportunity to complete a consent form and biographical information. Those forms help create a safe container for the therapeutic relationship. Please make sure to complete those in order to make sure we make the best use of your time so you get the most value from the experience.
