I'm Ian Foster, and together with my wife (and soulmate!) Heather, I specialize in education and empowerment. As a long-time government attorney turned specialist for heart-centered entrepreneurs, one of my fields of study is logic and critical thinking.
Critical thinking was an integral component in my undergraduate majors and law school. I have studied critical thinking throughout my career and traveled the country running training programs.
Now I'm helping you learn a holistic, values-based critical thinking that combines logic with compassion, so together we can make a difference in the world! Let's form a community and help one another make sense of this chaotic world and understand why people think the way they do!
SHOW ME HOW TO JOIN!Polarization and tribalization
Susceptibility to manipulation and false beliefs
Inability to communicate or disagree productively or compassionately
Wasting time with poor & unproductive business decisions
Lack of compassion for our own imperfections
Fractured and strained relationships with our friends and families
SCROLL DOWN TO SEE WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE COURSE AND WHAT MY STUDENTS HAVE SAID ABOUT HOW THIS COURSE CHANGED THEIR LIVES
Question your knowledge and beliefs -- use foundational critical thinking to honestly analyze the things you think you know and believe.
Feeling the power of "I don't know" -- learn to embrace the empowered state of "I don't know" so you are open to learn and grow.
Build and recognize powerful arguments -- discover how powerful arguments are structured so you can effectively communicate any idea and quickly analyze information in any context.
Use your mental tools for good -- critical thinking is a powerful tool for good, but it also can be used to confuse and misdirect. Incorporate compassion so you use these tools with the right motives to advance your values in the world.
Rid yourself of fallacies -- fallacies are reasoning errors that lead to false beliefs and knock us out of alignment with our values. Discover the most common fallacies so you can guard against falsehoods and communicate with greater effect.
Demand high quality evidence -- it's human nature to draw conclusions from poor quality evidence. Fortunately, we can learn what should or should not be convincing, and thereby improve our ability to embrace truth and avoid manipulation.
Challenge yourself -- when we combine critical thinking with love, compassion, and empathy, we find a wonderful tool for uncovering our blind spots and discovering how to align our actions with our values. Learn a powerful mode of thought for self-improvement and deeper relationships!
Communication and listening -- compassionate critical thinking makes us more effective listeners, communicators, and advocates. Come learn to amplify your voice and have a positive impact on the lives of those around you!
Along with the videos, you get material to make sure the information sinks in and help implement what you are learning. The worksheets will complement the videos and calls so you can start practicing and improving your compassionate critical thinking skills.
The course includes weekly live Q&A calls via Zoom. The calls are tentatively scheduled to begin the middle of September 2024. We'll have at least one call per week ... if enough people join, there will be extra calls at different times so more people can participate!
As my prior students can tell you, I don't just throw you in the "deep end" and leave you to sink or swim. I jump in there with you so we can work through these issues together!
"This course dramatically changed my business by completely transforming how I approach my clients. Ian taught me an insightful and compassionate approach to challenge my clients to be their best selves, which has opened up a world of possibilities. The way Ian teaches cause and effect in this course should be an essential part of everyone’s education."
"The modules are Fantastic! Ian’s approach to blending the “heartfelt” with the "hard" logic is phenomenally useful and promising for personal and societal growth."
"This course bears testimony to great Critical Thinking in itself. Enthralling content, excellently presented, builds in bite-size, easy-to-follow, thought-provoking sections to an impactful conclusion, challenging everyday thinking and behavior and positively expanding the logical mind."
"I loved Ian's whole approach to critical thinking -- the course was really about how we can use a deeper understanding of logic to directly and consciously improve our communication with others, but even more, our understanding of ourselves and our own blinds spots. I highly recommend this program to anyone who wants powerful and eye-opening tools to better understand themselves and their lives!"
"Ian's course opened my eyes to the modes of negotiation typical in business. I've got more tools to use as a result of taking the course, and frequently see opportunities in my daily life. I specifically learned how people use logic to confuse the public, and how I can get ahead of that as a leader."
"This course improved the quality of my life by giving me a new way of interacting with information I encounter in the world. I feel more empowered to do my own research and make up my own mind, and no longer feel like a victim of the media ecosystem. This course opened my eyes and changed the way I think about the issues."
